Oceans

Globally, the use of ocean power is still at the demonstration stage. Tidal ranges and energy contents in currents and waves as well as thermal or salinity gradients can be used to generate electrical energy. However, due to the prevailing geographical conditions, this is not an economically viable approach along the German coasts. Nevertheless, domestic companies can develop export markets in regions with more suitable conditions, such as the UK or France. Consequently, funding is allocated to the development and demonstration of marine current turbines and wave energy converters.
